China: MV KOTA PELANGI Departs from CIC Changxing Shipyard After Repairs

MV KOTA PELANGI departed from CIC Changxing shipyard smoothly after all the repair jobs were successfully completed. MV KOTA PELANGI, with LOA of 209.46m and LOB of 32.2m, belongs to KOTA series of Germany. She is the twentieth vessel, which the owner has awarded to CIC-Sipyards for repair. The main jobs were cargo hold and hatch cover repair.

Every cargo hold consisted of three pieces of hatch covers and all the side plate of the middle hatch covers were rusted in varying degrees. Besides rubber channels and side plates, they had to be replaced over large area, 31 pieces of hatch covers were placed along side the berth. Among them, 25 pieces were required to have sand-blasting and painting and 13 pieces of top plates under the container sockets should be renewed. Meanwhile the hatch cover service company asked the shipyard to re-weld the original welding seam of hatch cover. The working place was quite narrow and hard to operate. Moreover, there were 600 meters cell guides of six cargo holds to be renewed selectively.

In order to complete the jobs smoothly, the plating workshop has organized several sub-contract teams to fulfill the jobs. Firstly the shipyard conquered the main job of cell guides and hatch covers and then finished the jobs in side-tanks and on the deck. At last the shipyard completed all the jobs on schedule by joint efforts of all employees.
