China: Naming Ceremony Held for Havyard Designed AHTS

Naming Ceremony Held for Havyard Designed AHTS

The Havyard 843 CD designed vessel, «Kan Tan 225», has just been named and delivered to the major oil corporation of Sinopec in China. This is the first edition of the next generation of medium-sized AHTSs.

«Kan Tan 225» is designed by Havyard Group AS, whose main offices are in Fosnavåg in Sunnmøre, Norway and the group has also got a branch office in Shanghai, amongst other places. The vessel has been constructed at the Yuexin Shipyard near Shanghai and this Monday there was a major naming ceremony taking place.

PROTOTYPE

This is the first vessel of this specific Havyard 843 CD design that has been constructed. It is an AHTS doing more than 17 knots, it is 81 metres in length with a breadth of 19.5 metres,” says Director for International Projects at Havyard Ship Technology AS, Bjørn Bergsnes. Havyard characterizes the vessel as being the next generation of medium sized AHTSs.

«Kan Tan 225» is a complicated prototype of a high standard. The Chinese shipyard therefore uses slightly longer time on constructing this vessel compared to slightly easier types of vessels that they have previously constructed. It is very impressive to see what they now have managed to complete,” says Bergsnes.

Bergsnes and Mao Liling at Havyard`s Shanghai office were both present at the naming ceremony on Monday together with amongst others, the Sinopec represents; President Mr. Zuo Wenqi and General Director for Shipbuilding, Mr. Shu Kaixi.

“We are very pleased with the vessel from Havyard Group,” the Sinopec Management points out, who also adds that they are looking forward to a continued cooperation with the Norwegian group.
