China: New AHTS Vessel ‘Teras Genesis’ Delivered

China - New AHTS Vessel 'Teras Genesis' Delivered

Teras Genesis, was a speculative build project, constructed, for maximum cost effectiveness, at the tail end of a series of four Bahraini flagged sister vessels built for Zamil Operations. Construction of the 2,600 tonne vessel is to ABS class with the notation +A1(E) + AMS, FIFI 1 Towing and Anchor Handling Services.

Owned by Teras Offshore Pte Ltd, a Singaporean company specializing in marine logistics and support services, the vessel departed Cheoy Lees Kowloon yard, under the command of her Pilipino captain and 14 crew.

The elevated bridge deck includes six single cabins for the captain, chief engineer, and higher ranking crew members. The remainder of the crew is housed on the forecastle deck below, in two and four man cabins. A crew mess, dining hall, galley (with walk-in freezer, cold storage and provisions rooms), changing rooms and sick bay are all located on the main deck, immediately ahead on the large working deck.

The working deck aft is over 30m (100’) long, with an area of approximately 350 square metres (3,800 sq.ft). Sheathed in wood for protection during anchor handling and towing operations, the underlying steel deck plating is 20mm (3/4”) thick. Deck winches are from MacGregor Plimsoll, and include a 200 tonne towing/anchor handling winch, 10 tonne anchor windlass, two 10 tonne tugger winches, and two 5 tonne capstans. There are also 200 tonne towing pins and a 250 tonne Shark Jaw.

Powered by twin Niigata 6L28HX engines each delivering 2,500hp, driving Niigata ZP-41 azimuthing thrusters offering full thrust in any required direction, combined with the 12tonne Schottel bow thruster, the vessel has excellent maneuverability and station keeping abilities. Maximum speed is 13knot, with a cruising speed of 12knots fully loaded. Range at cruising speed is in excess of 4,500nm on the vessels 400 tonne fuel load. Three Caterpillar 320kW generators support the ships loads, while a 72kW back-up set also serves as a harbour generator.

Principal Dimensions: 58.00m LOA x 13.80m Beam x 5.05m Draft.
