CIC Boluomiao Shipyard Repairs and Delivers MV Sky Ace 1 (China)

MV “Sky Ace 1” was well repaired and redelivered to ship owner by CIC Boluomiao Shipyard. Every employee worked coordinately and hard, they got a major breakthrough in the “bulbous bow” repair technology, and walked a fore step to repair the large size curve plate.

The ship arrived at the shipyard for repair on June 20, 2011, this major repair work was quickly repair the whole “bulbous bow” to the original design specifications, and the ship-owner required that the ship must be redelivered on July 7. So the shipyard organized a topic meeting after the ship arrived. In the meeting, they arranged the detailed work, made a complete process plan to insure the new bulbous bow could be fitted on the ship in schedule. Because of the tight schedule, heavy task, and the lack of the experience, the technicians worked day and night to detailing drawings and writing work process. Hull workshop mobilized 28 technicians to compose a commando to finish the work and made a new bulbous bow. At the same time, other departments supported the safety, quality and equipments.

On June 21, the hull workshop organized seasoned workers to build the scaffolding and cut the old bulbous bow. In the work shop, they were making the platform frame, preparing materials and building the framework in accordance with the requirements of the drawings.

At the night of June 22, the old bulbous bow was cut and moved to the wharf. The workers were according to the linetype of old hull plate to proofing, plate forming. Face of the block fabrication pressure, hull workshop organized the technicians and distributed the task and responsibility to every person. In the key period, they worked around clock to insure the work to be finished in time.

On June 29, the fabrication of the bulbous bow was finished.

At 6am of June 30, the bulbous bow was moved to the dock and joined on the hull at 10:50 pm.

During the docking period, the chiefs of relative departments went to the working spot many times to give spot instruction for smooth production. The workers overcame the hot weather, small cabin, poor environment and worked day and night on the floating dock to finish the welding job. At last, the ship was successfully undocked on July 2.

After 15 days overtime working, the shipyard successfully finished the “bulbous bow” work, and passed the KR survey. The ship owners were very satisfied with this repair service.
