ClassNK updates guidelines for floating offshore facilities

Japan’s classification society ClassNK revealed the third edition of its Guidelines for floating offshore facilities for LNG/LPG production, storage offloading and regasification.

ClassNK said on Thursday the first edition of the guidelines, released in 2011, laid out technical requirements for gas FPSOs. In a revision revealed in February 2015, the application of FSRUs was clarified.

The third edition follows a gathering by key industry players together with ClassNK and Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism that discussed the advancements in safe FLNG design.

The new guidelines update on specific requirements of mooring analysis of single-point mooring systems, such as turret mooring systems.

The combination of environmental conditions to be considered and statistical analysis methods using tension evaluation are set out in the guidelines. Requirements for fire protection, fire extinction and so on have also been partly revised.
