CLdN Adds Third Vessel on Rotterdam to Leixoes Route

European short sea shipping firm CLdN ro-ro SA has decided to further expand the coverage on its Rotterdam, Netherlands – Leixoes, Portugal service as the company now plans to add a third vessel on the route.

After venturing into the Iberian region in late 2013, CLdN switched to two dedicated, high capacity RoRo vessels in the area at the beginning of the second quarter of 2016 to anticipate the growth in trade.

As the move resulted “in growth outstripping capacity within five months,” CLdN has chartered MV Bore Sea with plans to add a third vessel to the service with effect from October 24, 2016.

CLdN’s MV Adeline will be added to the service to complement the MV Catherine and MV Palatine.

This decision follows the CLdN’s recent orders for up to twelve vessels, scheduled to start joining the company’s fleet from the fourth quarter of 2017.

With this additional capacity, CLdN will also add the Port of Santander, Spain into the rotation, offering two direct calls per week to and from Rotterdam, Netherlands.

“The Port of Santander, with its direct, toll free, upgraded road links to the center of Spain and regular rail services, is seen as an ideal launch pad for a direct Spanish service, to complement the three sailings per week to / from Leixoes, Portugal,” the company said, adding that calls to and from the Port of London will continue, but will also be upgraded to three sailings per week, in line with the Portuguese service.

The company operates 24 vessels which connect the ports of Zeebrugge, Rotterdam, London, Killingholme, Dublin, Gothenburg, Esbjerg, Porto and now Santander.
