While revealing that the CMA CGM Osmium, as one of its latest 13,000-TEU dual-fuel methanol ships, has officially been named during a ceremony in South Korea, the French shipping giant underscores that the new vessel represents a continuation of its fleet expansion, supporting its net zero carbon 2050 trajectory.

The vessel was welcomed during the ceremony by Captain MA XunMin and Dorothée Regazzoni, Head of Territory BNP Paribas South Korea, which acted as the ship’s godmother, following the maritime tradition to mark the beginning of its journey at sea.

“Soon to operate on the M2X service connecting Asia with Mexico, she embodies our commitment to supporting global trade while accelerating the energy transition in shipping. Fair winds to CMA CGM Osmium,” added the firm.

This naming ceremony comes weeks after CMA CGM celebrated the arrival of the first in a series of six 15,000-TEU methanol container ships, increasing its fleet with the 400th owned vessel.

The French company recently inked the final shipbuilding contract for six containerships running on LNG with India’s Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL).
