Corvus Energy to Service Scandlines’ Hybrid Fleet
- Business & Finance
German-Danish ferry operator Scandlines has inked a long-term contract with Canadian manufacturer of energy storage systems Corvus Energy for service and maintenance of the company’s hybrid ferry fleet.
The 10-year contract includes both service & maintenance of the fleets’ energy storage systems and Corvus’ remote condition-based monitoring service.
The newbuildings, built at Danish shipyard Fayard, combine diesel power with battery power.
“Beginning with Corvus in 2012, their … energy storage technology has become the standard electric battery power solution for all of our hybrid vessels,” Fini Alsted Hansen, Technical Superintendent of Scandlines, said.
Along with the decreased environmental impact, the fuel consumption of the vessels has been reduced to almost one-third per crossing per car compared to the previous ferries used on the same route, according to Scandlines.
