COSCO Dalian Linked to VLCC Order at DACKS

China’s shipping company Dalian Ocean Shipping CO. (COSCO Dalian) is reported to have ordered two Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) at compatriot Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co (DACKS).

The ships are priced at USD 92 million each, resulting in a total value of the contract of USD 184 million, local media informed citing sources familiar with the matter.

The VLCCs are slated for delivery in 2018.

COSCO Dalian, a wholly owned subsidiary of China Ocean Shipping Company (Cosco Group), has a substantial orderbook which includes 12 VLCCs, three 50,000 DWT chemical tankers and five 76,000 DWT LR1 product tankers.

The company specializes in liquid bulk transportation and owns and operates a total of 40 vessels including tankers, LPG carriers, with total deadweight of more than 9 million, based on the company’s website data.
