One person died and three are in critical condition after being found unconscious in a cargo hold of a Polish container ship Corina which arrived to Denmark’s Hanstholm port from Gdansk on Tuesday, according to the local media.

Danish police and emergency services received a call around 18:30 local time yesterday about four seemingly lifeless bodies aboard the freighter docked at the Hanstholm port.

The crewmen were airlifted to hospitals in Hjørring and Aalborg, but unfortunately the help came too late for one of them.

Officials suspect the men fainted after inhaling toxic gasses while unloading pellets from the cargo hold.

The police officials have dismissed any notions of foul play.
