Crowley christens LNG-ready Louisiana

U.S.-based Crowley Maritime on said it has christened on Thursday the third of four LNG-ready product tankers being built at the Philly Shipyard.

Louisiana, which is 50,000 dead-weight-tons (dwt) and capable of carrying 330,000-barrels of product, has been delivered to Crowley mid-April.

The vessel is among the first tankers ever to receive the American Bureau of Shipping’s (ABS) LNG-Ready Level 1 approval, meaning Crowley has the option to convert the tanker to liquefied natural gas propulsion in the future, the company said.

Its sister ships, Ohio and Texas have been delivered to Crowley in 2015.

All four LNG-ready product tankers are based on Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD). The vessels are 600 feet long and is capable of carrying crude oil or refined petroleum products, as well as various chemical cargoes.
