Danish Parliament Amends Maritime Legislation

On 24 May 2012, the Danish Parliament unanimously adopted an act the purpose of which is to clarify the new distribution of responsibilities and to create good framework conditions for cooperation. The act entered into force on 1 June 2012.

When the Government was formed, the maritime training programmes were transferred from the Ministry of Business and Growth to the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education. At the same time, the pilotage area was transferred from the Ministry of Defence to the Ministry of Business and Growth.

The act implements a number of amendments to the act on maritime training programmes, the act on the manning of ships and the pilotage act as a follow-up on the transfer of responsibilities made within the maritime field.

At the same time, regulations are introduced on the right of appeal in the pilotage area corresponding to those otherwise applicable in the maritime field and the provisions on payment for pilotage services are clarified.
