Meanwhile the first system is undergoing sea trials.

The newly conceived Sea Owl XTi, re-launched by Saab Seaeye, was originally the first 360° ROV to work in any orientation – even upside down.

That earlier Sea Owl concept, successfully introduced by Saab in the 1980s, has been completely re-engineered.

The new Sea Owl XTi includes the iCON intelligent control architecture, has double the payload, is powered by seven thrusters, and is depth rated to 2000 metres from the earlier 500.

Saab Seaeye is the world’s largest manufacturer of electric ROVs, and now includes Saab’s underwater vehicle range of tethered, autonomous and hybrid underwater vehicle systems for the defence industry.
