Design contract awarded for Sakhalin II’s third LNG train

Sakhalin Energy on Thursday awarded the design development contracts for the third liquefaction train at Sakhalin II LNG plant.

The design package for the third train will be developed by Shell Global Solutions International and Giprogazcenter, a Russian design institute, Sakhalin Energy said in a statement.

The contract award follows numerous talks by the project shareholders and the memorandum of implementing the project for constructing the third train signed by Gazprom and Shell in June this year.

The third train is expected to add 5.4 mtpa of LNG production capacity to the 9.6 mtpa Sakhalin II currently produces.

Gazprom holds 50 percent plus one share in the project while Shell holds 27.5 percent. Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsui of Japan hold a 10 percent ad 12 percent stake in the project respectively.
