DMCA Issues 13 Licenses for Sharjah Police’s Specialized Marine Team

Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) has recently issued marine driving licenses for 13 positions within the General Command of Sharjah Police to facilitate the proper movement of naval patrols. This is an important step towards ensuring a sustainable and safe marine environment and reflects the high level of confidence the government, security and community circles have placed in DMCA.

The Authority is a pioneer of a marine driving licenses policy that underpins the creation of an integrated regulatory framework for ascertaining the highest standards of maritime safety within the local territorial waters.

The issuance of driving licenses for personnel of the General Command of Sharjah Police working in the maritime domain demonstrates DMCA’s commitment to build strategic partnerships with government agencies, private sector organizations, and other relevant entities.

Amer Ali, Executive Director of Dubai Maritime City Authority, explained that the growing demand for issuance of maritime driving licenses confirms the success of DMCA in building clear regulatory frameworks while also integrating maritime safety and operational efficiency. Ali appreciated the fruitful collaboration with the General Command of Sharjah Police to facilitate the seamless performance of tasks by marine teams responsible for securing water festivals and transporting persons from the city of Sharjah to the island of Sir Bonair and how it will further enhance patrolling and coast guarding for achieving safety standards on par with the best local and international laws.

DMCA’s policy of licensing personal, sport, tourism and leisure crews are in accordance with the Executive Council’s Resolution No. 11 for the year 2013 and 2010 Executive Regulation Law No. 11 on licensing of marine transport in the Emirate of Dubai.

It is prohibited for any person within the territorial waters of Dubai to drive marine vehicles unless he or she holds a license issued by the DMCA. To get a marine driving license, applicants are required to be medically fit and possess theoretical knowledge and practical experience to use light marine transport, ferries and pleasure crafts. The crew members of commercial marine craft and traditional wooden vessels should have complete knowledge of radar, marine communications and marine charts along with the necessary skills to use safety equipments, carry out rescue and first aid, ensure public safety, and prevent marine pollution.
