Project & Tenders

Classification society, DNV GL, on Wednesday said it has signed a framework agreement with National Grid to provide design and engineering technical services to the Grain LNG terminal.

The scope of the three-year framework agreement covers feasibility studies, conceptual design studies, specialist engineering and risk management services up to and including front-end engineering and design (FEED), DNV GL said in a statement.

Nicola Duffin, Commercial Manager, National Grid said the company is looking to expand the service offering at the Grain LNG terminal, Europe’s largest terminal with 1,000,000 cubic meters storage capacity.

Hari Vamadevan, DNV GL Regional Manager UK & West Africa noted the significance of the contract for the classification society as the importance of LNG in the UK’s fuel mix is crucial.

He added that by 2020, 70 percent of the UK’s gas will need to be imported and stored.

Currently, the Grain LNG terminal has a 15 mtpa capacity, equivalent to 20 percent of the UK’s gas demand.
