DOF Subsea’s vessel Skandi Darwin has started its long-term IMR contract for the Shell Prelude FLNG facility in Australia.

DOF has been previously awarded a five-year contract, with two two-year extension options, to provide IMR services and a multi-purpose vessel to the Prelude FLNG facility.

Skandi Darwin, built in 2012 as Olympic Commander, has commenced its service on November 26, DOF Subsea said.

Shell’s Prelude floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility arrived at its location, the Prelude field, 475km North-North East of Broome late September.

The project is currently in the commissioning phase which could take up to 12 months.

The Prelude FLNG facility will produce 3.6 million tons per annum (mtpa) of LNG, 1.3 mtpa of condensate and 0.4 mtpa of LPG.

The project will be operated by Shell in a joint venture with Inpex (17.5 percent), Kogas (10 percent) and OPIC (5 percent).
