Drydocks World & Maritime World, the well-established international service provider to the maritime, oil & gas and offshore energy sector, announced yesterday that Chairman His Excellency Khamis Juma Buamim has accepted an invitation to chair the DNV Offshore Technical Committee. H.E Buamim met Mr. Henrik O. Madsen – DNV GL Group President & CEO, Uwe Bullwinkel, Senior Vice President & Regional Manager India & Middle East, DNV GL Maritime and Mr. Omar Abu Omar – Area Manager, DNV Dubai Branch at a meeting held at Maritime Business Centre at Dubai Maritime City.
H.E. Buamim discussed with Mr. Madsen the ongoing business and the existing cooperation between the two groups and ways to strengthen them. The meeting also discussed business opportunities and projects available in West Africa, Mexico, Brazil and the importance of constructive cooperation to push the maritime industry and allied operations in developing economic relations and investment activities in targeted areas and emerging markets.
The Offshore Technical Committee is established as the appropriate forum for exchange of knowledge, experience and views on aspects related to DNV’s services and business in the region. This committee is charged with updating and sharing current and future challenges, market developments, new technologies and future rules and regulations within the industry.
The members of the Technical Committee represent owners and senior executives of companies providing offshore services such as drilling rigs, floating production units, shipyards, consultants and designers, service suppliers etc. The Committee encourages industry debate on pressing issues and provides an active platform for discussion on developments in technology, practices and support initiatives. The next meeting of the Committee will be held at The Fairmont, The Palm, Jumeirah on October 29, 2013 and will ponder issues relating to marine compliance, mooring for jack up rigs, implementation of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code at offshore units, drilling contractor HSE and training support and will provide an update on the offshore market scenario.
The Committee also provides an insight into DNV’s current and future activities including DNV’s initiatives and innovation programs and rulemaking process. While DNV updates the industry in the Committee meetings held annually in various regions on its activities, the Committee, in turn, typically offers feedback on the quality and scope of DNV’s services related to the offshore sector.
Accepting the invitation, His Excellency Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World & Maritime World said, “It is a privilege to accept the invitation to chair the DNV Offshore Technical Committee. DNV is a leading provider of classification, certification, verification and advisory services all over the world. We are already working in close collaboration with them on industry-leading initiatives as part of the ‘Dubai Maritime Green Initiative,’ which is among several projects and programs which seek to study the possibility of promoting environmentally efficient and sustainable alternative fuel such as LNG in commercial shipping. This would provide an opportunity to explore new ideas and futuristic technology including processes and equipment and make constructive contributions towards the growth of the offshore sector not only in the UAE but also in the Middle East and Africa.”
