Drydocks World in charge of LNG vessel’s rebirth as FSU

Project & Tenders

UAE-headquartered marine and offshore services provider Drydocks World Dubai, a part of DP World, has augmented its liquefied natural gas (LNG) conversion portfolio with a new refurbishment task that will allow it to give an LNG carrier a new lease on life as a floating storage unit (FSU).

The firm has signed a new contract with Dixstone Lower Gulf FZCO for the transformation of an LNG carrier into the FSU Cap Lopez, which is destined to support Gabon’s strategic floating LNG (FLNG) development.

This will enable offshore gas liquefaction, storage, and export, while helping reduce gas flaring and boosting the country’s production capacity by approximately 105 million standard cubic feet per day.

Drydocks World’s project scope extends from over 700 tonnes of new steel fabrication and 3 kilometers of piping to the installation of a 1,400-tonne BOG module and a 350-tonne E-House, alongside full vessel drydocking, tank coating, and life-extension works.

The required tasks will be consucted under the classification of Lloyd’s Register to ensure the highest safety and compliance. With sail-away scheduled for July 2027, this is said to reinforce the firm’s ability to deliver high-spec LNG conversions.

While noting that the deal also highlights its ability support the global energy transition with sustainable infrastructure, the company said: “We thank Dixstone Lower Gulf FZCO for their trust and look forward to delivering this technically demanding project with excellence.”

The new assignment comes after Drydocks World won a deal with Amigo LNG, the Mexican joint venture of Texas-based Epcilon LNG and Singapore-based LNG Alliance, for an FLNG liquefaction facility at a future LNG terminal in Mexico.
