Dubai Maritime Sector Gearing up to Expo 2020 with Integrated Infrastructure, World-Class Maritime Regulations and Services

H.E. Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, President of the Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), emphasized the enormous development opportunities the iconic Expo 2020 represents to Dubai.

“Expo 2020 is an economic catalyst that will energize trade in the emirate in the coming years. The continuous improvement of operational and logistical efficiencies across maritime-related segments is instrumental to optimizing the flow of supply channels across land, sea and air. For its part, DMCA will continue to uphold highly effective international maritime regulations and best practices to ensure the delivery of first-class services that can tap the economic potentials of hosting the expo,” said H.E. Sultan Ahmed.

Dubai’s maritime sector is expected to witness a substantial increase in commodities traffic given the extensive features available in the emirate in terms of integrated infrastructure and operations and well-established regulations that ensure industry readiness under the highest international levels and standards of service quality,” he added.

Over the past four decades Dubai has emerged as a leading development model of the 21st century, taking its place among the world’s top economies such as New York, London, Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Paris, Chicago, Sydney, and Shanghai. The phenomenal growth of the emirate’s economy is primarily due to the diversity of its income sources; many prospective high-growth segments continue to sprout within major industries such as the maritime sector which has helped shape Dubai’s rich history in marine navigation and trade throug the centuries. This sector has helped Dubai develop into a leading maritime gateway for traders in South East Asia and the West Coast of Africa.

The radical transformation of Dubai’s maritime sector can be credited to the close collaboration among the emirate’s maritime-related government and federal entities. The high level of cooperation has served as a cornerstone for the development of impactful maritime regulations and operational strategies which have enhanced the industry’s performance, safety, efficiency and competitiveness. It has also helped position Dubai as a first-class international maritime hub in line with the wise vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
