Dubai: Polarcus Takes Ownership of Polarcus Asima Vessel

Shipowner Polarcus took delivery of the 12 streamer 3D/4D seismic vessel Polarcus Asima on 31 August.

The vessel is built at Drydocks World Dubai, and is of ULSTEIN´s SX134 design. The vessel, measuring 92 m length and 21 m breadth, is the largest in the Polarcus fleet

Polarcus Asima is classed with ICE-1A from DNV for work in Arctic waters, and has double hull and ballast water treatment for fragile areas. Speed maximum is 15 knots, and the streamers can be deployed at 9,000 m length at 100 m separation.

According to Polarcus, the vessel will commence immediate work in the Black Sea in a charter for Rosneft.

ULSTEIN X-BOW® HULL DESIGN ADVANTAGES

  • Higher transit speed in calm water due to low angles of entry and increased waterline length
  • No bow flare, eliminating bow impact and/or slamming in foreship
  • Lower pitch and heave accelerations due to foreship volume distribution and slender hull lines
  • Reduced noice and vibration levels in foreship due to soft entries in waves
  • Less spray
  • Negligible occurrences of green water on bridge deck
  • Working deck and deck equipment better protected due to hull extended to full beam in accommodation area
  • Higher transit speed in head and following sea, giving reduced power consumption and/or higher fuel efficiency in waves and still water
