Egypt to issue tender for 10 LNG cargoes for July-August

Egypt is reportedly set to issue a tender seeking ten LNG cargoes for July and August delivery during next week. 

Once the tender is complete, the country will look to secure another batch of ten cargoes, either through a direct contract or through an international tender, Reuters reports citing an official at the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding company (EGAS).

Egypt’s oil minister Tarek El Molla was reported as saying the country is looking to charter a third FSRU by the second quarter of next year, increasing its import capacity to about 2 billion cubic feet per day.

The company has also secured excess capacity at Jordan’s FSRU Golar Eskimo serving as the country’s LNG import terminal in the port of Aqaba.

Egypt that has turned a net importer over the course of last year, due to falling production, increased domestic consumption and gas shortages, has deployed two FSRUs in Ain Sokhna that serve as the country’s import terminals.

The Höegh Gallant FSRU, provided by Höegh LNG, began operations in April last year, while the FSRU BW Singapore, provided by BW, has been in full operation since October 2015.
