EKTANK Orders Chemical Quartet at CSSC Chengxi

Swedish shipowner EKTANK AB has signed a construction contract with Chinese shipbuilder CSSC Chengxi Shipyard for four chemical tankers.

The 18,600 tanker feature 154 meters in length and 23.7 meters in width, and are scheduled to start delivery in 2018, local media reports.

The order is said to be the first one for chemical tankers placed at CSSC Chengxi, which had been focusing on bulk carriers so far.

The contract is seen as a sign of the yard’s moving into more complex shipbuilding business, especially at a time when demand for bulkers is low.

EKTANK has five chemical tankers in its fleet ranging from 13,700 DWT to 17,000 DWT, based on the information available on the company’s website.
