Farstad’s vessel hired for Total’s Congo ops


Total E&P Congo has awarded Farstad Shipping’s construction support vessel (CSV), the Far Sleipner, an 18-month contract to support its subsea development activities offshore Congo. 

Farstad said that Total awarded the contract via Petro Services and that Total has an option to extend the deal by six two-month periods. The contract will begin during the fourth quarter of 2016.

The commercial terms of the agreement, as well as other details, have remained undisclosed as agreed to by the two parties.

Karl-Johan Bakken, CEO of Farstad Shipping, said: “Over the last 18 months, Far Sleipner has developed very good relations with Total through the work performed on the MOHO North field development project in Congo.

This contract shows the attractiveness of our new series of subsea vessels that meet our client’s expectations for advanced subsea operations in deep water production developments. We highly appreciate the confidence Total, as one of our key clients, is showing us again.”

The Far Sleipner was built in 2015 by Vard in its Langsten shipyard and delivered to Farstad in March of the same year. It is 142,6 meters long and 25 meters wide with a deadweight of 9,200 tonnes.

Four engines provide the vessel with a total propulsion power of 22549 BHP enabling a service speed of 12 knots. The Far Sleipner can accommodate 130 people in single cabins.
