FERC intends to draw up EIS for Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass LNG project

The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a notice of intent to prepare an environmental impact statement for Venture Global’s planned Calcasieu Pass LNG project.

According to the FERC filing, the commission will discuss the environmental impacts of the Calcasieu Pass project involving construction and operation of LNG export facilities by Venture Global Calcasieu Pass in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.

The scoping period opened with this notice will close on February 19, 2015.

Venture Global’s liquefied natural gas export facility will have an export capacity of ten million metric tons per year of LNG and will accommodate ocean-going vessels with an LNG carrying capacity of up to 185,000 cubic meters. The project site will include two full containment LNG tanks with approximately 200,000 cbm storage capacity.

The project costs are expected to be between US$4 and US$4.5 billion with full operations expected to commence in late 2019.
