FERC prepares draft EIS for Port Arthur LNG

The United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) readied the draft environmental impact statement for the Sempra’s Port Arthur LNG project. 

FERC said in its notice the that the approval of the proposed project, that includes a natural gas liquefaction facility and connecting pipelines, with the mitigation measures recommended in the EIS, would have some adverse environmental impact, however, these impacts would be avoided or reduced to less-than-significant levels.

The proposed Port Arthur facility includes two natural gas liquefaction trains capable of producing, under optimal conditions, up to approximately 13.5 million metric tons per annum (mtpa), up to three 160,000-cbm LNG storage tanks and ancillary support facilities to liquefy and load LNG onto ships.

Bechtel has been selected to be the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPC) contractor. First production from the facility is expected in 2023, according to the projected timeline.
