Fire at Canadian Breakbulk Terminal 90Pct Contained

A fire that broke out yesterday on the East Berth of Canada’s Squamish Terminal is 90% contained as of 1 am today local time, the local Emergency Operations Centre reports.

Efforts will move to extinguishing the fire underneath the dock once the morning’s high tide recedes.

The fire did not start on the vessel that was tied up to the dock, so the vessel was cut loose and is safely away from the dock.

All employees and crew members that were onsite have been accounted for and are safe.

Emergency Services, fire boats and the terminal’s management team are onsite to monitor the fire, and the Ministry of Environment is monitoring air quality.

Squamish Terminals is a deep-water, breakbulk terminal located at the north end of Howe Sound – located 32 nautical miles north of the Port of Vancouver.
