Fire breaks out at Samsung Heavy’s shipyard

A fire reportedly broke out on Wednesday at Samsung Heavy’s shipyard in Geoje, South Korea.

According to a Wednesday report by Yonhap, a South Korean news agency, the blaze started from a cooling installation at 10:07 a.m. and was extinguished around 10:30 a.m. No casualties were reported.

The news agency further reported that the Ministry of Employment and Labor ordered the company to partially suspend operations at a location where the fire happened while the company works on improving safety. In order to resume operations, Samsung will need an approval.

The fire broke out only two weeks after a crane collapse at the shipyard killed six people and injured 25. The incident occurred at the shipyard location where modules for Total’s Martin Linge topsides are being built.
