First LNG bunkering in Eemshaven Port

The first liquefied natural gas bunkering operation took place on Monday in Beatrixhaven, one of Eemshaven Port’s docking basins.

The LNG-powered coastal tanker Sefarina, built by Shipyard Constructions Hoogezand Nieuwbouw, received the chilled gas from a mobile bunkering unit, marking the first time such  an operation was conducted at Groningen Seaports, the port authority said in a statement.

Chemgas Shipping’s Sefarina is 87.2m long and 14.8m wide, and has two gas tanks with a total capacity of 3,000 cbm. Main propulsion is a Wärtsilä DF main engine which can be driven by gasoil or LNG.
