Flexlife Appoints New CEO (UK)

Flexlife, an oil and gas industry specialist in subsea project and integrity management, has appointed Ciaran O’Donnell as its CEO.

Mr O’Donnell was co-founder and CEO of CSL, a project management and engineering company. In 2007, he successfully sold the company to DOF Subsea, remaining for 3 years following the sale, mainly in the role as EVP for the Atlantic Region. Presently he is a Non Exec Director of Glacier Energy Services providing strategic input to the board.

The new appointment will provide added strength and experience to the existing management team and support Flexlife in its continued growth both in Aberdeen and globally.

Stuart Mitchell, director of strategic development, said: “Ciaran has a wealth of experience in the industry and we are delighted to have him joining our team. This is a significant time for Flexlife as we continue moving forward with our growth plans – it is exciting to have Ciaran join us as our CEO to work with our strong team, delivering a high level service to our customers around the world.”

Mr O’Donnell’s appointment comes after John Marsden, Chief Operating Officer, moves on from the company due to family commitments and to pursue other interests.

Mr Marsden said: “It is with sadness that I have made the difficult decision to move on from Flexlife. I give Ciaran absolute support in his new role and have every faith that the right team is in place to grasp the many opportunities for the company. I am pleased that such a strong CEO will be taking the company forward and lead it through the next period of growth.”

Mr O’Donnell said: “I am delighted that John and the management have fully supported the decision for me to join the strong and growing team at Flexlife. The company has an admirable track record for its services, technology and expertise and I am incredibly excited to be joining a fast growing and innovative business at a perfect time in my career.”

Mr Mitchell added: “We wish John the very best in his future. Since the formation of the company, there has been significant growth and with this growth the company has evolved. We are looking forward and are confident that with Ciaran in place leading the team, we have an incredibly exciting time ahead.”

The Aberdeen-based company has expanded significantly over the last 12 months, with projects completed around the world and long-term agreements in place with a number of operators for integrity management services. Flexlife also provides innovative products and services to manage the service life and reduce the costs of flexible pipelines.

As well as moving into a new HQ in Aberdeen Science and Energy Park in 2011, Flexlife opened new bases in Brazil, the US and Newcastle. The company now employs around 100 engineers and support staff across its offices and supports clients including Apache, Chevron, Centrica and Tullow Oil.

The full executive team at Flexlife comprises of Mr O’Donnell, Mr Mitchell and Chief Financial Officer John Duncan. David Cassie and Sandy Clark continue as Non Exec Directors with the firm. Flexlife reported an increase in turnover of more than 50% for year ending 2010/11, with a rise from £4.8million to £7.5million. The company has achieved a turnover £15million in financial year 2011/2012.
