Fluxys LNG to Build Fifth Storage Tank in Zeebrugge

Fluxys LNG, the owner and operator of the LNG terminal in Zeebrugge and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fluxys Belgium, has awarded the turnkey contract for a new extension of the terminal to a consortium of DF Oil & Gas and Felguera IHI.

The turnkey contract covers the construction of the fifth LNG storage tank, as well as additional process installations, and represents an amount of over EUR 200 million.

The new installations are part of the investments required to offer the LNG transshipment services for which Fluxys LNG signed a long-term agreement with Yamal LNG back in March .

The companies signed a 20-year contract for the transshipment of up to 8 million tons of LNG per year at the port of Zeebrugge, to support year-round LNG deliveries from Russia’s Yamal Peninsula to Asian-Pacific markets.

During the Arctic summer, Yamal LNG will be delivering its LNG to Asian-Pacific markets via the Northern Sea Route using ice class ARC7 LNG tankers.

In winter, the Arctic LNG tankers will transit via the Zeebrugge LNG terminal where Fluxys LNG will provide services to transship LNG onto conventional vessels used to make final delivery to Asian-Pacific markets via the Suez Canal.
