France’s Dunkirk LNG import terminal, the country’s fourth regasification facility, has received its second-ever cargo from the Novatek-operated Yamal LNG export project in the Russian Arctic.

According to Dunkerque LNG, the terminal operator, the 172,410-cbm ice-class LNG tanker Fedor Litke arrived at the Dunkirk facility on Monday morning.

Fedor Litke is one of fifteen Arc7 ice-class carriers that will serve the Yamal LNG project.

Novatek started shipping LNG from its giant Yamal LNG plant, Russia’s second export facility, in December 2017. The three-train Yamal LNG plant is designed to produce about 16.5 million tonnes per year.

The ice-class tankers carrying volumes from Yamal LNG regularly transfer cargoes at European terminals during winter, where conventional vessels pick them up for delivery to Asia or other higher-paying markets.

During Arctic summer, Yamal LNG will be delivering the chilled fuel to Asian-Pacific markets via the Northern Sea Route.

Dunkirk LNG facility received the first Yamal cargo in January.

To remind, Christophe Liaud, Commercial Director at Dunkerque LNG told LNG world News in February that ships calling at the facility this year could double, boosted by the volumes from the Yamal project.
