G2 requests FERC pre-filing initiation for Calcasieu River LNG project

G2 LNG, a Louisiana-based energy development company filed a letter with the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission requesting the start of pre-filing process for its proposed Calcasieu River LNG project.

G2 proposes to site, construct, own and operate a liquefaction facility with a peak capacity of approximately 14 million tons of LNG per annum on the west bank of the Calcasieu River between mile markers 3 and 4, the letter filed on Wednesday reveals.

The project facilities will include two LNG trains with an average base LNG production capacity of approximately 6.7 mtpa each, pre-treatment facilities, three  180,000 cbm LNG storage tanks and two marine loading berths capable of receiving up to 250,000 cubic meter LNG carriers.

The facilities will also include a storm surge protection system (levees), on-site electric power generation facilities and two 42-inch natural gas pipeline laterals (totaling approximately 42 miles) and associated compression to deliver feed gas to the terminal from the nearby interstate and intrastate pipeline grid in Louisiana.

The project was in July awarded permission to export liquefied natural gas to free-trade agreement countries.

G2 also recently awarded a FEED contract to LNG engineer KBR and is in advanced discussions with long-term customers in China, Europe and the Caribbean.

Deliveries from the project are expected to start in early 2020.
