The Port of Hamburg’s newly built Cruise Center Steinwerder welcomed its first cruise ship – the AIDAbella – on Saturday, May 23.

At around 7:00 am local time AIDAbella became the first cruise ship to dock at the newly built complex at Kronprinzkai (Crown Prince Quay) in the heart of the port of Hamburg. The complex will be officially inaugurated on June 9, 2015, as the Hanseatic City’s third cruise terminal.

During AIDAbella’s first docking the new Cruise Center was successfully subjected to a first, complex practical test with a guest changeover during which around 4,800 guests left or boarded the ship.

AIDAbella had docked at Kronprinzkai in Hamburg port after a 7-day Western Europe cruise. The cruise ship left the Cruise Center Steinwerder again at around 6 pm and resumed its Western Europe round trip. In total AIDAbella will dock at the new Cruise Center Steinwerder in Hamburg another 21 times during this year’s cruise season.

The new cruise terminal with a total area of 9,000 square meters comprises two different buildings where arriving and departing guests are handled separately. The Kronprinzkai in Steinwerder is designed for cruise ships with a draft of up to 13 m.
