Gallery: Current human capital trends and challenges at Offshore Energy 2015

Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference (OEEC) 2015 is in full swing now and one of the keynotes during the first day on Tuesday was the Human Capital Panel.

It was organized in cooperation with Deloitte and moderated by Paola Overmars and Marco Hoogerwaard from Deloitte.

The panel looked at current human capital trends and challenges in a turbulent economy and an ever-increasing volatile offshore energy sector.

The members of the panel were Alexander van Noort, Royal IHC COO, Marcel Bechger, Senior Director of Human Resources at Fluor, Arold de Vries, HR & Communications Director at Damen and Just in ‘t Velt, Head Human Capital at Mammoet.

The panel tried to answer some of the key questions in the industry related to its human capital. Some of those questions were whether selecting the future leadership requires radical change of the performance appraisal process; whether leadership of the future is a black box; will the chief human resources officer (CHRO) role be as important as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO); is family-based culture more difficult to change; and whether the company’s current culture blocks it from changing its habits.

One of the panelists, Alexander van Noort, said: “It is time for old generation to make place for new.” He added that the experienced generation could also learn a lot from the new one. “Talent should be global nowadays,” van Noort said.

Marcel Bechger said that companies should invest time and money in development of their current workforce.
