Scotrenewables Tidal Power is hosting an open day at Hatston Pier, Kirkwall, to show off the world’s largest floating tidal turbine – the SR2000.

The visitors will get a chance to view SR2000 up close, and to talk to the team responsible for its development.

The open day will be hosted on Saturday, June 25, from 11-3 pm.

As reported earlier, SR2000 was launched in May from the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast.

Following the launch, the turbine underwent two weeks of testing at the Belfast Lough, after which it was towed to Orkney, where it will be deployed at the European Marine Energy Centre’s test
berth later this year.

The 550 tonne SR2000 tidal turbine consists of a 64 m floating hull that incorporates two 1 MW rotors mounted on retractable legs.
