GasLog Unveils One More LNG Carrier Order at SHI

Owner, operator and manager of LNG carriers GasLog has ordered another LNG vessel at Korean Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard.

The 180,000 cbm Flex Plus newbuilding with XDF propulsion represents the company’s third LNG carrier order in the past few months and second in 2018.

As informed, the vessel is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2020 and is currently unchartered.

GasLog said it has also agreed options with Samsung for additional newbuild vessels.

“Given that the outlook for LNG shipping demand remains robust, and with increasing evidence that newbuild prices are starting to rise, we have moved to lock in a very attractive price for our second newbuild order in 2018,” Paul Wogan, Chief Executive Officer of GasLog, commented.

In February, the company also ordered a 180,000 cbm LNG carrier. The ship will be chartered to Pioneer Shipping Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Centrica, for an initial period of seven years.

Previously, in late 2017, GasLog placed an order for an LNG vessel of the same size at the abovementioned yard.
