GDF Suez Delivers LNG Cargo to Thailand

On the 24th of June, GDF SUEZ delivered its first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to PTT in Thailand.

During the World Gas Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, early June, GDF SUEZ has reached an agreement with PTT Public Company Limited, the national oil and gas company of Thailand, to supply PTT with 3 LNG cargoes in 2012.

The cargoes, sourced from GDF SUEZ’ LNG portfolio, will be delivered to the Map Ta Phut LNG terminal. These new LNG volumes will allow PTT to fulfill Thailand’s growing natural gas needs as well as to secure a new energy source for the country.

GDF SUEZ considers Asia as a core development region for its LNG business, with strong growth prospects and new supply potential. The Group already concluded 5 short and medium term agreements in the region. From 2010 to 2016, GDF SUEZ is planning to deliver a total of about 8.4 million tonnes to KOGAS, CNOOC, Petronas, Petronet and PTT.

Jean-Marie Dauger, Executive Vice President of GDF SUEZ, in charge of the Global Gas & LNG business line said “This agreement with PTT confirmed our successful global strategy in LNG: to be a major LNG player in the Atlantic Basin as well as a reliable supplier in the Asia Pacific Basin. Our LNG portfolio is permanently optimized and allows us to develop new markets

GDF SUEZ is one of the leading LNG players in the world. The Group has a diversified portfolio of LNG supplies from 6 countries, representing 16.5 MTPA. It operates a fleet of 17 LNG carriers and has a significant presence in regasification terminals around the world. To extend its LNG portfolio in the Asia Pacific Basin, GDF SUEZ is developing Bonaparte LNG, a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, located off the coast of Australia, with a 2 MTPA capacity.

GDF SUEZ is already present in Thailand with extensive activities. GDF SUEZ owns 69% in Glow Energy, the largest private independent power producer of Thailand, and also owns 40% in PTT NGD, a joint-venture with PTT to develop and operate a gas distribution network in the greater Bangkok area.
