GDG to Discuss Foundation Innovation at LORC Symposium

Gavin and Doherty Geosolutions Ltd. (GDG) will present their insights on foundation innovations for the offshore wind sector at an International Symposium held in Denmark next week.

GDG to Discuss Foundation Innovation at LORC Symposium

The 2014 LORC Symposium will include a discussion under the general topic of ‘Cost reduction through innovation’ on the 12th of September, where GDG will introduce their recent research and design optimisation activities in the field of offshore substructure engineering. Of particular relevance is their role within the European FP7 project “LEANWIND”.

The LEANWIND project, started in December 2013, is an EU-funded applied research project running for 4 years. The consortium comprises 31 European partners from a variety of backgrounds including academia, research and industry. The main objective of the LEANWIND project is to reduce the Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE) in offshore wind, giving consideration to the recent trends of industry which looks into wind farm construction in deeper water and further offshore.

This will be done by facilitating the industrial application of innovative concepts with cost-saving potentials, and also by applying the lean principles across the whole supply chain. GDG are leading the work in relation to substructure optimisation for the LEANWIND project, which compliments other activities and value engineering exercises which are ongoing within the company.

As a leading geotechnical consultancy, GDG is active in the field of offshore design and construction, providing innovative and reliable solutions for the most challenging offshore projects, from the soil interpretation stage to the conceptual foundation design, detailed engineering and installation analysis. GDG are currently also developing technical foundation solutions for a range of challenging site conditions including driven pile solutions in weak rock, gravity base solutions for undulating seabeds and deep soil-mixed columns for calcareous sands.
