Germany: NSW to Supply Submarine Power Cable Systems for Borkum Riffgrund 1

NSW to Supply Submarine Power Cable Systems for Borkum Riffgrund 1

For the connection of the offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 1 with the offshore converter platform DolWin alpha via two parallel 155 kV AC submarine cable systems, Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH (NSW) has been awarded on November 8, 2011 by TenneT TSO GmbH (TenneT) the order for the supply and installation of 26 kilometers 155 kV AC submarine power cable systems.

DolWin alpha is located in approximately 75 km distance to the German Coast and is the offshore converter station for the grid connection project DolWin1. The offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 1 will be connected to this converter station. From there, a high voltage DC transmission of 800 MW will transport the energy generated from several offshore wind farms to the supergrid in Dörpen, located 165 km away.

To quote Rudolf Stahl, Chairman of NSW: “We are delighted that once again the client TenneT has put its trust in our technical capabilities, and are pleased to receive another order as part of the grid connection projects in the DolWin Cluster.”

Frank Bohm, general project manager and responsible for DolWin1, could only agree: „With NSW, we have a partner who is drawing on innovative technologies, and at the same time bearing the client’s best interests in mind. At the end of the day, this is a key factor to the successful realisation of our projects.
