Germany: PALFINGER WIND to Equip Baltic 2 Wind Farm with 80 Cranes

Germany PALFINGER WIND to Equip Baltic 2 Wind Farm with 80 Cranes

PALFINGER WIND is now equipping the Baltic 2 wind farm in the German Baltic Sea with 80 cranes of type PS 23500 M. With this order for EnBW, PALFINGER WIND is now acting as supplier to three of Germany’s largest energy suppliers.

Baltic 2 will generate a total output of 288 MW with 80 wind turbines, each with a power of 3.6 MW. The offshore wind farm will generate 1,200 GWh of electricity for around 340,000 households each year. It is located around 32 km north of the island of Rügen in the west of the Baltic Sea and is likely to begin operation in 2013/2014.

Turnkey solution as a decisive success factor

The world’s leading manufacturer of wind cranes will supply 80 platform cranes of type PS 23500 M with ranges of both 5 m for 39 monopiles and 6.2 m for 41 jackets. With these large ranges, secure and rapid unloading of supply ships can be guaranteed up to a significant wave height of 1.6 m. PALFINGER WIND received the contract for this heavily contested order in 2012. “This success definitely makes us proud,” says Managing Director Thomas Nitsch, pleased about the ongoing upwards trend. The crucial element in winning this order was being able to provide a turnkey solution. The turnkey package contains both the complete installation of the cranes on the platform and the final class certification in the port by Germanischer Lloyd.
