Grupo Bolognesi lining up two LNG supply deals

Grupo Bolognesi of Brazil said it is close to signing two LNG supply deals for its planned gas-powered power plants.

The Brazilian company won the right to build two LNG receiving terminals and associated power plants in the states of Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Sul, following a government auction.

As Paulo Cezar Rutzen, Bolognesi’s vice-president, told Reuters, the company is talking to two major LNG suppliers and could sign deals with one or both of them.

This would mean that the state-owned Petrobras monopoly on the country’s market could come to an end.

The proposed term for the deals is 25 years. Grupo Bolognesi’s two planned LNG terminals would have a combined regasification capacity of 28 mcm per day with the company needing only 12 mcm of gas per day to power it 1,200 MW power plants. The rest would be offered to interested buyers.

According to earlier reports, Excelerate Energy will provide the FSRUs to Grupo Bolognesi for the two planned LNG regasification terminals.

Both terminals are expected to be in operation in two years.
