Guangzhou Huangpu Splashes Bei Hai Jiu 177 Icebreaker

Guangzhou Huangpu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation, has launched Bei Hai Jiu 177 rescue vessel being built for Salvage Bureau of China’s  Ministry of Transport. This is the first of eighteen 8,000 kilowatt marine salvage vessels with anti-ice capacity. China Classification Society (CCS) classed the rescuer with B1 Ice Class.

Bei Hai Jiu 117 was designed on the basis of the previously built 8000-kilowatt salvage series, constructed by Huangpu Shipbuilding Marine, with some improvements included.

With the development of the Arctic and economic revitalization of the northeast China, the Bohai economic growth, there is a growing need for the use of icebreakers.

In order to be more competitive in completing rescue missions at sea, the Ministry of Transport decided to build up its fleet of ice-breaking marine salvage vessels.
