Harkand Names New CEO (UK)

International subsea inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) group Harkand has today announced the appointment of John Reed as its new chief executive officer as it embarks on the next stage of its ambitious growth strategy.

Reed, an industry veteran with more than 30 years’ experience in the offshore engineering and construction sector, will lead the development of the company as it drives forward with its target of growing turnover to $1 billion in the next five years.

Due to take over the reins in October, he replaces Nicolas Mouté who steered the group’s formation since inception and through the merger of Iremis, Integrated Subsea Services (ISS) and Andrews Survey following investment by Oaktree Capital Management and the acquisition of Veolia Marine Services. Mouté will move to another senior role within the group, to be announced later.

Chairman Tom Ehret said: “I am pleased to welcome John to Harkand. He brings with him extensive experience of developing and delivering large scale, capital intensive projects and management of major complex organisations, which I believe will prove invaluable to the company as we continue with our transformation into a leading name in global IRM and light construction services for the oil and gas industry.

“Nicolas has played a key role in creating and shaping the organisation to date and positioning us for further growth as we go forward and we look forward to his continued involvement in developing the group in the future.”

Reed most recently served on the Cal Dive International Inc. Board of Directors from May 2012 to August 2013. Prior to that he was CEO of Global Industries Ltd. from March 2010 until its acquisition by Technip S.A. and is a former CEO of Heerema Marine Contractors.

He holds a Bachelors’ degree in Engineering from the University of Mississippi and an MBA from Delta State University; and previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Ocean Industries Association, is a past President of the International Pipeline and Marine Contractors Association and past Chairman of the International Marine Contractors Association, America’s Deepwater Division.

Welcoming the new appointment, Nicolas Mouté said: “I am delighted with John’s appointment to lead Harkand during the next stage of its growth and to continue the development of its strategy. Harkand has embarked on a significant period of investment since its formation and the knowledge and experience he brings to the business, together with the talent and skills we already have within the company, will confirm Harkand’s position as one of the leading subsea IRM companies.”

Harkand aims to become a leading global name in subsea inspection, repair and maintenance focused on attaining the highest standards in health, safety, quality and environmental performance along with first class project execution.

Employing 750 people at bases in Aberdeen in the UK, Dubai in the Middle East and Singapore and Perth in Asia Pacific, Harkand aims to grow turnover to $1 billion in the next five years. Harkand announced recently the acquisition of Veolia Marine Services, the closing of which is expected soon.
