Havyard to Upgrade Torghatten Nord’s Ferries

Norwegian ferry owner and operator Torghatten Nord AS has decided to convert two of its ferries from conventional to hybrid operation at its compatriot shipbuilder Havyard Ship Technology.

The reconstruction and hybridization will be conducted on the company’s two 120 PBE shuttle ferries.

Havyard Ship Technology said that the work on the reconstruction will begin immediately and the upgrade is scheduled to be finalized by the end of this year.

Torghatten Nord’s ferries will undergo renovation of propulsion systems and power electronics on board, installation of the battery pack, and preparations for possible future all-electric operation.

The ferry company owns and operates a fleet of 32 ferries and 10 express boats which offer public transportation services in the Nordland and Troms.
