Heerema’s Deepwater Construction Vessel Aegir Arrives in The Netherlands for Final Outfitting

Heerema Marine Contractors’ new Deepwater Construction Vessel Aegir, one of the largest deepwater construction vessels in the world, is expected to arrive in Rotterdam today for final outfitting.

She began her long journey from Daewoo’s Korean shipyard in January this year and, upon arrival to the Netherlands, the vessel will undergo the installation of the pipe-lay equipment which will be performed at the Huisman yard in Schiedam. The ship is fully developed in the Netherlands by Ulstein Sea of Solutions from Vlaardingen.

The DP3 class vessel will be capable of executing complex infrastructure and pipeline projects in ultra deep water and will also have sufficient lifting capacity to install fixed platforms in relatively shallow water.

Aegir is scheduled to start work on its first installation project in the Gulf of Mexico in the fourth quarter of 2013.
