Hibernia: Casing thread protector falls on deck. Misses worker by 3 meters

Hibernia Management and Development Company has reported a high potential near miss on the Hibernia Platform, offshore Canada.

While running casing a casing thread protector fell from a height of approximately 30 feet (9 meters) to the deck below.

According to according to the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board, the casing thread fell approximately 10 feet (3 meters) from a worker who was in the area at the time. No injuries were reported.

Hibernia is an oil field in the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately 315 kilometres (196 mi) east-southeast of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, in 80 m of water.

The shareholders of Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd. (HMDC) are: ExxonMobil Canada (33.125%), Chevron Canada Resources (26.875%), Suncor (20%), Canada Hibernia Holding Corporation (8.5%), Murphy Oil (6.5%) and Statoil Canada Ltd. (5%).
