Highlights of the Week

Subsea World News has put together a recap of the most interesting articles from the previous week (June 01 – June 07).

To find out about Technip’s soild performance during the first quarter 2015, despite industry headwinds, Subsea World News asked Technip’s President Subsea Hallvard Hasselknippe, who joined the company’s Executive Committee in January 2014.

Previously Technip’s Managing Director in Norway and COO Subsea Asia-Pacific, talked about the reasons behind success of Technip’s subsea segment, its future plans and what the newly established Forsys Subsea brings to the company.

DOF Subsea’s subsidiary has entered into an agreement with Technip for the sale of DOF Subsea’s ownership in the joint venture vessel Skandi Arctic, with immediate effect.

The Skandi Arctic is a 157 meters long purpose designed and built diving support and heavy construction vessel. Furthermore, DOF Subsea informed that the charter contract for the vessel Skandi Achiever has been extended by 7 months with Technip and the vessel is now firm until February 2016.

Ulstein has introduced its new X-STERN EXTENDER concept, a feature which, according to the company, turns a relatively small vessel into a flexible subsea vessel with an extendable moon pool in the aft.

This feature increases safety in subsea operations, and the vessel’s smaller size reduces total operational costs and its environmental footprint.

Chevron advised that the Big Foot tension-leg platform (TLP) will be moved to sheltered waters from its location in the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico following damage to subsea installation tendons.

The tendons were pre-installed in preparation for connection to the Big Foot TLP. Between Friday, May 29 and Sunday, May 31, 2015, several tendons lost buoyancy. The Big Foot TLP was not connected to any subsea wells or tendons at the time of the incident and was not damaged.

FMC Technologies and Technip informed that Forsys Subsea, a 50/50 joint venture, has received all regulatory approvals. The parties closed the transaction making Forsys Subsea operational on June 1, 2015.

Launch events for Forsys Subsea were held in London, Houston, Oslo, Paris, Rio and Singapore this week. Forsys Subsea was officially announced in March this year as a joint venture that will unite the skills and capabilities of two subsea giants.
