How many LNG cargoes is Neymar’s record-breaking transfer to PSG worth?

What does the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry have to do with Neymar’s record-breaking 222 million euro ($263 million) transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain?

Well, not much, except that we can compare it with a number of LNG cargoes it is worth at current prices and the fact that PSG is owned by Qatar, the world’s largest LNG exporter.

WoodMackenzie MENA, a unit of the UK-based consultancy, released an interesting infographic on Friday through its social media channels.

According to Woodmac, the 222 million euros transfer equals to about 1.14 Mt of LNG or 18 cargoes at current prices.

This compares to the volumes Spain’s biggest regas terminal in Barcelona imported in the first half of 2016, Woodmac said.

Impressive, right? Media reports have said that Neymar could earn around 550,000 euros per week in PSG.

The Brazilian striker signed a five-year contract with PSG and is now committed to the French capital’s club until June 30, 2022.
