Npa, Contractors Sign N8.9bn Calabar Port Dredging Contract

FOLLOWING the approval given by the Federal Executive Council to the Ministry of Transport for the dredging of Calabar port, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has signed contract agreement for the dredging of the Calabar Port channel, valued at N8.9billion. The contract, which was awarded to Van-oord and Jandule, will take about fifty-two weeks to complete and is expected to commence immediately, as the Authority has concluded plans to mobilise the contractors. Speaking at the agreement signing ceremony in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, Minister of Transport, Dr Abiye Sekibo, said that deepening the channel of the Calabar port will not only attract bigger vessels to the port, it will also bring more businesses to both the port and the State.
